AIDA RETURNS – عائدة (2023) Dir. Carol Mansour, 78 mins

Trailer: https://aidareturns.com/public/screenings

The film, Aida Returns,  is a poignant, sometimes sad, sometimes painful, sometimes humorous, often absurd story of a multiple journey: the journey of loss as the director’s mother Aida struggled with losing herself to Alzheimer’s disease, but finding solace in her repeated “returning” to the Yafa and Palestine of her youth; the journey of the loss of a parent; and the ultimate return journey back to Yafa where Aida would finally find rest and be herself once more.

After the film, join us for a conversation with Lina Habib from Palestine LegalLina is a Development Associate at Palestine Legal and supports with resource mobilization. She has experience working on Capitol Hill, various refugee/immigrant justice non-profits, and internationally at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Lina was on the Development team at the National Immigrant Justice Center and is currently on the Development team at the Chicago Palestine Film Festival as well. A proud Palestinian, she obtained her bachelor’s in political science and master’s in international affairs from Marquette University in order to better understand the world and advocate for her people. She was on the board of SJP Marquette and helped organize and lead protests in Milwaukee, as well as unanimously pass a historic BDS resolution for the first time in Marquette history.

This screening as part of Palestine Cinema Days, and is being sponsored by Palestine Legal and Haymarket Books. While this event is free donations are strongly encouraged and all donations will go to Palestine Legal to support their work protecting the civil and constitutional rights of people in the U.S. who speak out for Palestinian freedom. We have been seeing an unprecedented increase in repression of Palestine advocacy and community support is crucial to continue meeting the need for legal support. Please donate if you can.

**We ask that all in-person attendees wear masks in the event space during the program for the health and well-being of the speakers and other guests. **
