Join us for a reading and discussion with Maya Abu Al-Hayyat, author of No One Knows Their Blood Type, just published by Cleveland State University Poetry, and Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, author of Something about Living (University of Akron Press), which is a finalist for the National Book Award.

Speakers:

Born in 1980 in Lebanon, Maya Abu Al-Hayyat is an Arabic-language Palestinian novelist, poet, and children’s book author. She edited The Book of Ramallah, an anthology of short stories published by Comma Press in 2021. Her children’s book A Blue Pond of Questions was translated into English and published by Penny Candy Books. An English translation of her poetry appeared from Milkweed Editions under the title You Can Be the Last Leaf, translated by Fady Joudah and named a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Lena Khalaf Tuffaha is a poet, essayist and translator. She is the author of Water & Salt (Red Hen), which won the 2018 Washington State Book Award, Kaan & Her Sisters (Trio House Press), finalist for the Firecracker Award, and Something About Living (University of Akron Press, 2024), winner of the 2022 Akron Poetry Prize. Her writing has been published in journals, including: Los Angeles Review of BooksThe Nation, Poets.orgProtean, and Prairie Schooner, and in the anthologies, The Long Devotion and We Call to the Eye and the Night. She was the translator and curator of the 2022 series “Poems from Palestine” at The Baffler magazine. She is currently curating a series on Palestinian writers for Words Without Borders entitled “Against Silence.” For more about her work, visit www.lenakhalaftuffaha.com.

Noor Hindi (she/her/hers) is a Palestinian-American poet and reporter. She is a 2021 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellow. Dear God. Dear Bones. Dear Yellow is her debut collection of poems. She lives in Dearborn.
